So my fellow footie fans only 7 games to catch up on from Saturday as Anna v Andy’s match was postponed due to the cup.
A lucky goal in the 50th minute saw Jan beat Lyn 1-0 taking Ipswich four points clear of the drop zone, a game summed up nicely by Ipswich’s manager Mick McCarthy who said "It was a horrible, scrappy, scruffy, ugly, magnificent 1-0 win." Hmmmm not if you’ve got Blackpool in the ccc!!!
The 0-0 result for Jim’s Derby v Sue’s Wolves gives Sue a sixth game in a row without a win. By all accounts it was a fairly uneventful encounter that failed to help allay Wolves' relegation fears or strengthen Derby's play-off hopes.
Paula well and truly beat Colin with a 4-1 victory at home. Palace went 1-0 up in the 9th minute
and continued to dominate the first half but failed to score, apparently prompting manager Ian Holloway to tell his players they were boring him at the half-time interval. Football boring surely
not??? Anyway clearly the pep talk worked with a further 3 goals in the second half.
Chris’ team were completely dominated at home with Birmingham beaten 4-0 by Watford. Stat wise Birmingham recorded 58% possession so clearly it’s not how much you have the ball but what you do with it!! The 3 point away win takes Scott’s Hornets up to third, while Chris remains in a relegation scrap.
Keith v Kelly was a battle spanning the table with Cardiff at the top and Bristol City all the way down in the relegation spot. Sadly despite Bristol taking some cheer from an own goal from Cardiff’s Ben Nugent in the 90th minute it was a 2-1 victory for Cardiff with Keith retaining top spot.
Mick v Margs was a single point game with the final score all square at 1-1. Mick took the lead just before the hour but in the 77th minute Margs equalised to level the game and earn Bolton a valuable point moving them four points above the drop zone.
And last but not least the mother daughter battle between Jane and Amy. Clearly failing to respect the family hierarchy Amy took 3 points with a 1-0 victory at home. Jane almost saw an equaliser in the last 5 minutes only to be denied by a decent save from the Hull goalie.
So scores on the doors sees Amy 8 points off Keith at the top of the table and Jane only 6 points above the Championship's relegation zone.
