CCC Match Reports for 6th Oct

Chris endured more woe by losing 1-0 to Andy, and not helped by rumours of a players revolt, and now back-to-back league defeats at St Andrews.  A sending off 16 minutes from time can’t have helped matters.  Lee Clark's fed up of making excuses, at least there’s no comment from the chairman yet.  Sue earned a well deserved victory against Shirley in the top-ish table clash, though they did have to wait until the 78^th min. for a slender 1-0 win.  On the plus Blackburn’s highest gate since the departure of Steve Keane, four games without a win not such good news….a downward slide that might help my curry bill!  Lyn’s trying to extend her disappointing run by earning a 2-0 defeat to Shirley, IH comments not one of the classics but still "I'm very bitterly disappointed. Our Achilles heel has been balls into the box and it happened again. I'm fuming, absolutely fuming.”  Paula on the other hand continued her fine run and had a much more exciting 7 goal thriller game against Anna triumphing 4-3 in the end.  Dan might have been peppering Jim’s goal (ooh-err) but they gotta be on target, neither side were so that one ended goalless, and Dan’s got to be worried with no goals in the last 3 games.  Dave earned a narrow 1-0 win over Barnsley and should be happy with a win over a team that have not lost to Leeds since 1998.  Becchio scored from a controversial penalty decision and rubbed salt into the wound by hitting the net with a cheeky chip.  Pete’s climbed to 2^nd in the Championship with a 2-0 win over Kelly and continued their home winning streak to 5 games.  Margs will be gutted as Millwall sneaked a 2-1 win in the 90^th and in what might be a bit of deja-vu is left in 18^th place in the Championship without a win in the last 3 games.  What might have been if the penalty claim for handball had been awareded.  Peterborough slumped to Mick’s Forrest by a goal to nil..if only someone had picked Peterborough then I might not be in last place.  In a comment that could also have been said by Paul Jewell Darren Ferguson said "Losing that game is a really hard one to swallow because there is no doubt in my mind we deserved something out of it.”.  Any conquered Ted (all in the best possible taste) by 1-0 meaning Ted’s slump continued.  The Owls need to open those big eyes of theirs having failed to win any of their last eight matches and not earn a single point in September.  A late winner for Colin over Scott earned MIddlesborough a 2-1 win, but Scott;s Watford didn’t help themselves by Vydra getting himself sent off (early I think).  I’m gonna claim that as a victory on account Scott being managed by ex-tractor bot Tony Mowbray.

Ipswich v Cardiff match report

So here’s the match report as LIVE Text…apologies for abbreviations, typos ect

So - they think it's gonna be a route. Ipswich going for 1st home win since March. Cardiff scored 10 more goals than ipswich since the start of the season.  Ball clawed by keeper out of Ipswich net by keeper on 6 min, phew lucky escape!! Almost an ipswich penalty claim for ipswich on 8th. On the plus C haven't won at I for 66 years.  I shot on goal in 13 but easy catch for keeper. I playing well to start with but need better accuracy. Good I chance for Campbell in 16. Weak header from C easily caught by keeper. Poor crowd for game against table toppers.  Good ipswich pressure but rubbish crosses. At 25 I 60% possession. Seen that before though SHOT from ipswich power and swerve .  Keeper could only tip round. Oh, looks like the hammers have scored. Ipswich come close in goal mouth scramble in 30. Another ipswich corner. Shot from I but way over to row Z. , another shot for I from tight angle, easy save. Another sky high shot from I, first Y to Drury (I). Corner for I ...but nought, another I corner ..GOAL by DJ Campbell, nothing less than I deserve at 46.31!!! Some suspicion of handball but who the feck cares?!?!

2^nd half

Was handball but luckily the lino is blind. End to end as teams come out with pace. C shot but deflected over. I corner, wasted... Dangerous I attack but C defence deal with it. I shot from some one with really long name, over again. C substitution. I corner, no goal but lots of I pressure...another I goal would be good now. I substitution DJC off, Scotland on. C corner, but great defending. Feck C GOAL don’t know or care who scored...looks like 30 min more agony. C corner but off, I GK. Great punch out from I keeper. (Beer / wee break - me not them).  I getting back into it after C good spell. 12 mins to go... Brill I keeper save from power shot. C free K off for corner, defence clear, counter attack by I , and a I corner, but over by I. Feck C GOAL in the 87th...here ends the match report :-(

Team of the week - Derby County FC (The Rams)

Derby County FC was formed in 1884 as an offshoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Their first competitive match was in the 1885 FA Cup, where they lost 7–0 at home to Walsall Town. Things could only get better.

The Football League was introduced in 1888 and Derby is one of only ten clubs to have competed in every season of the league since it was introduced. The opening day of the first ever league season was 8 September 1888, when Derby came from 3–0 down away to Bolton Wanderers to win 6–3.

In 1895 the club moved to a new stadium, The Baseball Ground, which became their home for the next 102 years, and adopted their traditional colours of black and white. In these early days, Derby were inconsistent in the league (though they did finish runners-up to Aston Villa in 1896), but were a strong force in the FA Cup, appearing in three finals in six years around the turn of the century.

Derby were one of several clubs to close down during the Second World War but restarted in the early 1940s, and were one step ahead of the opposition when competitive football resumed with the 1946 FA Cup and won their first major trophy with a 4–1 victory over Charlton Athletic. The club then had a patchy time up until 1967, when Brian Clough and Peter Taylor took over and led the Rams to their greatest glory.

Derby were promoted to the First Division in 1969, finished fourth in 1970, got banned from competing in Europe due to financial irregularities in 1971 and won their first ever League Championship in 1972.

Derby did not retain their title the following season, but they did reach the semi-finals of the European Cup, losing to Juventus in a controversial match which was subject to subsequent allegations that the Italian club had bribed match officials. Clough, in his usual understated way, publically called the Italians "cheating bastards". His frequent outspoken comments eventually led to him falling out with the club’s directors and he left in 1973, much to the disappointment of the fans.

Derby's main club rivalries stem from the Clough era. Nottingham Forest, being only 14 miles east of Derby, were always fierce rivals, but the fact that Brian Clough took over at Forest a few years after leaving Derby probably didn’t help matters. Leeds are also disliked due to ongoing friction from the early 1970s when Derby and Leeds were two of the top English teams. The scarcely concealed hostility between Brian Clough and Don Revie is documented in the film The Damned United.

Derby's form declined towards the end of the 1970s after a string of managers, including former Man United boss Tommy Docherty, unsettled the club trying desperately to maintain its place at the top of the First Division. They were relegated to the Third Division for only the second time in their history in 1984.

After some further ups and downs, the club were back in the Premiership in 96-97. The club left the Baseball Ground, its home of 102 years, to move into the new 30,000-seat Pride Park Stadium for the 97-98 season. You can have a tour of the ‘new’ stadium for £8 (£6 for students, Amy) next time you find yourself in Derby with an hour to spare.

Derby have the dubious honour of the English league record for most matches without a win in 07-08.

Nigel Clough, son of Brian, took over as club manager in 2009 and since then the club has maintained a fairly steady position in the Championship.

Derby's current most popular celebrity supporters (apart from me) are Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, Asia singer John Wetton, who has been a fan for 57 years, Rebecca Adlington (niece of former Rams goalkeeper Terry Adlington) and actor Robert Lindsay.

CCC Match Reports & Update (posted in wrong order)

In the Beale’s Match of the Day Margs’s Kevin Davies scored twice to ensure a draw – the home team having taken the lead and then falling1-2  behind before his 79^th minute strike.   Ex-Bolton player Diouf was made captain for the night for Leeds and hit the bar in stoppage time but I am sure the Leeds penalty was probably controversial and it sounded like the Leeds goalkeeper had a lot to do so it was probably a fair result. And whilst they were competing in the CCC – the Beales were having a curry J

Dan lost his top of the table spot in the other Match of the Day clash. Having missed an early opportunity to score, his visitors (our bottom of the table Jan’s Ipswich) took the lead mid-first half but Dan’s team scored late on to rescue a point and ensure Jan still props up the table but saves himself 2p in the pound. Kelly had a similar score-line at home to Millwall although in that match she scored first.  In a more exciting draw Ted (Sheff Wed) away at Anna’s Burnley came from behind three times to equalise and share the points, twice within one minute of the home team scoring.

Chris’s Birmingham, still only have one away win so far this season and after this 2-1 defeat away at Keith’s Cardiff, Keith took over the top spot from Dan.  Pete was propelled up the table by his 2-0 win at Andy's Huddersfield.  Amy has already said that she wasn’t happy at losing in the battle of the tangerine’s and in a match where the lead changed hands three times the fact that the winning goal (for Lyn) was an overhead kick seven minutes from time can’t have been good.  Paula came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 away at Sue’s Wolves and climbed up the table, whilst Scott’s Watford managed a similar score line having scored first and despite the controversial sending off of Fernando Forestieri in the first half away at Jane’s Charlton.  Did he dive?

In Wednesday's matches do we know what inspired Jim’s Derby to get a late equaliser to earn their first point at Middlesborough in 12 years? Having lead with an early penalty the visitors went 2-1 down before the 87^th minute strike gave them a share of the points.

Mick’s betting may have not proved successful but he held Shirley’s managerless Blackburn to a 0-0 draw. Did we mention that after all the failure of last season and early success of this – Shirley’s manager resigned. I haven’t noticed your comment on the matter yet Shirley?

CCC Dodgy dealings

So it was bizarrely a rare Championship match not involving a CCC team (Barnsley V Peterborough) in which the planned Referee was arrested before the match. If one of our teams had been involved there would no doubt have been accusations of bribery and corruption but in fact it was a case of suspected hacking into email accounts of a colleague. I am sure Mick will look up to see if Dean Mohareb, 29, had refereed any Forest matches and made any iffy decisions.

However, one of Mick's players along with one of Jan's were among nine people  charged over an investigation into "suspicious betting activity" in horse racing - accused of "serious breaches of the rules of racing". The allegations focus on horses being laid to lose on betting exchanges.

That can't be said of Mick who enthusiastically bets his 3-1 wins for Forest. We'll wait and see whether suspicion and Mick's name hits the headlines as something dubious by the end of the season or whether the bookies are happy laughing their way to the bank.
