CCC Match Reports & Update (posted in wrong order)

In the Beale’s Match of the Day Margs’s Kevin Davies scored twice to ensure a draw – the home team having taken the lead and then falling1-2  behind before his 79^th minute strike.   Ex-Bolton player Diouf was made captain for the night for Leeds and hit the bar in stoppage time but I am sure the Leeds penalty was probably controversial and it sounded like the Leeds goalkeeper had a lot to do so it was probably a fair result. And whilst they were competing in the CCC – the Beales were having a curry J

Dan lost his top of the table spot in the other Match of the Day clash. Having missed an early opportunity to score, his visitors (our bottom of the table Jan’s Ipswich) took the lead mid-first half but Dan’s team scored late on to rescue a point and ensure Jan still props up the table but saves himself 2p in the pound. Kelly had a similar score-line at home to Millwall although in that match she scored first.  In a more exciting draw Ted (Sheff Wed) away at Anna’s Burnley came from behind three times to equalise and share the points, twice within one minute of the home team scoring.

Chris’s Birmingham, still only have one away win so far this season and after this 2-1 defeat away at Keith’s Cardiff, Keith took over the top spot from Dan.  Pete was propelled up the table by his 2-0 win at Andy's Huddersfield.  Amy has already said that she wasn’t happy at losing in the battle of the tangerine’s and in a match where the lead changed hands three times the fact that the winning goal (for Lyn) was an overhead kick seven minutes from time can’t have been good.  Paula came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 away at Sue’s Wolves and climbed up the table, whilst Scott’s Watford managed a similar score line having scored first and despite the controversial sending off of Fernando Forestieri in the first half away at Jane’s Charlton.  Did he dive?

In Wednesday's matches do we know what inspired Jim’s Derby to get a late equaliser to earn their first point at Middlesborough in 12 years? Having lead with an early penalty the visitors went 2-1 down before the 87^th minute strike gave them a share of the points.

Mick’s betting may have not proved successful but he held Shirley’s managerless Blackburn to a 0-0 draw. Did we mention that after all the failure of last season and early success of this – Shirley’s manager resigned. I haven’t noticed your comment on the matter yet Shirley?

CCC Dodgy dealings

So it was bizarrely a rare Championship match not involving a CCC team (Barnsley V Peterborough) in which the planned Referee was arrested before the match. If one of our teams had been involved there would no doubt have been accusations of bribery and corruption but in fact it was a case of suspected hacking into email accounts of a colleague. I am sure Mick will look up to see if Dean Mohareb, 29, had refereed any Forest matches and made any iffy decisions.

However, one of Mick's players along with one of Jan's were among nine people  charged over an investigation into "suspicious betting activity" in horse racing - accused of "serious breaches of the rules of racing". The allegations focus on horses being laid to lose on betting exchanges.

That can't be said of Mick who enthusiastically bets his 3-1 wins for Forest. We'll wait and see whether suspicion and Mick's name hits the headlines as something dubious by the end of the season or whether the bookies are happy laughing their way to the bank.

CCC MATCH REPORTS (updates to follow)

Dan missed out on a chance to stay ahead of every one as Chris got his first away win beating Brighton 1-0. After fixing the floodlights during a 15 minute delay to the second half  Brighton's players failed to light up the Withdean Stadium, despite creating many chances and so ending their 5 match winning run. Marg's plea to Bolton failed to have any effect on their players as Paula managed another win with Palace! winning 1-0 after a soft penalty decision for a foul on winger Zaha. Bolton themselves denied an obvious penalty? for handball.Can Paula keep this up for 7 months?  Love him or hate him El Hadji Diouf struck twice to help Dave beat Kelly's Bristol 3-2. After a goalless first half Leeds scored only for Kelly to equalize  Dave then went 3-1 with an injury time consolation for Kelly. Anna nearly had the result she desired after going  2-1  up against Millwall ( and yes Amy we do!) but after a strange linesman decision and a 90+3 equalizer she had to settle for a draw and just 1 point.  With Keith and Lyn starting on the same points both were looking for a win, the Bluebirds playing in their new red shirts (hows that going to work?) opened the scoring on 17 minutes when Connolly scored his first goal in 2 1/2 years and they never looked back scoring 2 more to comfortably win 3-0. On this performance Cardiff look more likely to win promotion than lyn's favourites Blackpool.  Jane was hosting Shirley's second from top Blackburn and no doubt expecting a defeat after a run of mediocre performances. But Blackburn clearly suffering a hangover after the exit of manager Steve Kean were outclassed by the home side. Shirley managed to take the lead against the run of play and Jane should have equalized after Cort was brought down but Jackson blasted his penalty straight down the middle and was saved by Robinson, however shirley's relief was short lived as Charlton scored just 60 seconds later finishing all square at 1-1.  Scott won his first match in 6 games against an in form Huddersfield winning 3-2. Andy went ahead when Norwood  fired in a 25 yard free kick, scott levelled on 68 mins, then took the lead on 83 only for Andy to level 1 minute later. Watford took all the points when Troy Deeney ( recently released from a 10 week stint in prison for affray!) scored from the penalty spot, much to the relief of under pressure manager Zola.    Oh dear oh dear onto Hull v Peterborough! too many stats to mention them all but the Tigers perfect home record, Posh not picking up any points  up to this game, Sinclair scoring his first hat trick of his career all spring to mind.Posh took the lead on 24 mins followed by another 6 mins later. Amy pulled one back only for Sinclair to get his third on 74 mins, the Tiger hunt completed .  Pete's Leicester defeated colin's Middlesbrough 2-1, foxes manager Pearson admitted they got lucky after a hint of offside for their first and a deflected second, i suspect colin would agree as Middlesbrough would have moved up into the top six instead of Pete.   Perhaps Ted had a premonition when he posted his picture as another defeat leaves him one place off the drop zone.The 1-0 win for Sue means she rises to third place. Owls boss Dave Jones was fuming at the officials for a missed penalty and the confusion with the free kick which resulted in the goal. Sako took the free kick while the wall was being arranged and shot wide but was made to take it again and scored.  Jan didn't take the opportunity to lose to a team not in the CCC and went for a draw instead. The tractor boys went ahead when Cresswell scored on 6 minutes. Barnsley stormed back in the second half and would have won,  had it not been for some fine saves from Scott Loach , however they equalized on73 mins after a great strike from Dawson, his first goal since December 2011. Jan firmly rooted in the bottom three, is it too early to thank you for the curry?                                                                                       Match of the day? well as i was asked to write match reports this weekend (no you can't get out of it Jan) i thought it my journalistic duty to go to the pub to watch the game and drink copious amount's of lager, the down side of this is my memory is somewhat blurred! and may  be somewhat biased  . The game started off as you would expect any local derby to, crunching tackles flying in from both sides and Derby fan Robert Madley letting them  go to keep the game flowing . He then decided to start picking out Forest players to wave his yellow card at. Forest dominated until just after half time when Mr Madley decided to award a controversial red card for an intentional elbow to Dexter Blackstock, having had a few socials with Dex  i know that would be the last thing on his mind. Yellow at best. Having said that there have been 4 red cards in the last 4 derby's.Jon/Jim's Derby then managed 10 mins later to score a spawny goal at their first attempt!! Forest kept battling and kept the upper hand  and Simon Gillett's strong low drive was only just kept out by Frank Fielding so it finished  Jon/Jim 1 Mick 0. Well played all and it's a good job i can be professional and not let personal feelings interfere. Mick Sheppard, on the sofa, vowing never to do this again!  p.s The distance from Mr Madley's house in Wakefield to Derby 58 miles , to Nottingham 62 miles.  Case rested.                                                                          

CCC TEAM OF THE WEEK-- JANE

Charlton Athletic was formed in 1905 (not too long before Jane). The club is based at The Valley in south-east London, with local derby's Crystal Palace, Millwall and the mighty West Ham. The club was originally formed by a group of 14 and15 year old youths living in streets bordering the Thames where since the flood barrier  is sited. The club rose rapidly through the local leagues post first world war until they turned professional and joined the southern league in 1920. A year later the club was elected to join the football league division south. In 1933 Sam Bartram joined the club in 1934 and made a record 583 appearances. Ralph Allen scored a record 32 goals in 33/34 season and helped achieve promotion every season until 36/37.In 1946 after the second world war ( when all football stopped ) manager Jimmy Seed had to build a new side which included the acquisition of goal scoring sensations Chris Duffy and Charles Vaughan. In this season they reached the F.A cup final losing to a strong Derby County side (shame they dont have one for this saturdays game). The following year after beating Newcastle 4-0 in the semi final they went on to win the final 1-0. However by the early 1950's many star players left the club and by 1957 were relegated to division two. Stuff happened for a while, Then suddenly in 1971 Mike Flanagan joined the club and helped them win promotion back to division two ( so presumably they were relegated in that stuff period?) in 1975. The following season saw the Addicks celebrate their 2000th league match beating Southampton 4.1 at The Valley.1980 saw them back in division three. Lenny Lawrence became manager in 1982 but the club was plagued by financial problems and by 1984 went into administration. The club then ground shared with Crystal Palace until Wimbledon moved there so they uprooted again to ground share with West Ham.They eventually moved back to The Valley in1992 and celebrated  with a 1.0 win over Portsmouth (ouch!). They reached the play off final in 1996 but lost to Palace. The following year saw them promoted only to be relegated the  next season. They won promotion again in 2000/01 where they stayed until 2012/13. The team run on to the pitch at home games to the sound of "The red red robin" by Billy Cotton.
